Lookin 4 a good recipe 2 cook on my bge.

I've never cooked bean soup on a smoker, but why not? I usually just use double smoked ham hocks or bone from a ham that I've smoked. Here is my basic recipe that I use.

Basic bean soup

1 lb. navy beans
2 qts. Water and/or chicken broth
1 bay leaf
1 ham bone or hock
1 ½ cups diced ham
1 bay leaf
1 med. Onion chopped
1 carrot shredded
1 stalk celery diced
2 cloves garlic
Salt/pepper to taste.

Soak beans overnight. Drain and rinse beans then put back in pot with 2 quarts water. Bring to boil then reduce to simmer. Add hock or ham bone. Simmer for 2 hours. Add celery, onion, garlic, carrot, bay leaf. Continue simmering till beans are tender. Remove cup or so of beans and puree in food processor and add back to pot or just mash up some of the beans in the pot with a ‘tater masher. Add ham, salt/ pepper to taste.
