Default Vintage Imperial 5 Kamado (never used)

Hello All,

I am a newbie to your forum so thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I purchased a kamado last night on Craigslist for a great price.

It was found in the sellers fathers house after he passed. They didn't know what to do with it so they sold it. It has never been used...infact it was still in it packaging with the little paper shreds inside of the kamado for protection. I am guessing it is probably 40-60 years old.

here are some other pictures

the only issue with it is that the ring round that holds the lid slides up and down a bit on the lower half and has chipped some of the paint and clay.

I plan on resetting and tightening the band to prevent this from further damaging the base.

I want to fire this thing up tomorrow and over new years but I don't want to destroy a vintage piece that might have some value. I am wondering if anyone out there has something to say about this kamado and have any feedback on what I should do.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks again for taking the time to read.

What a cool find. I would make the needed adjustments and then get it dirty. Cool

someone that knows more than i hopefully will step in, but i seem to remember reading quite a few times that some of the older kamados don't like high heat.
