Right, but even so, even with the shortest nipples I could find at HD, I still have a good amount of space between the ring and the barrel, so if I'm not careful, I end up unscrewing the nipple with the cap. The locknuts won't tighten far enough on the nipple - like the nipple expans closer to the center...

The floor plate looks like a good idea! What section would that be in - plumbing?

Ok here is the deal. The nipples are not threaded enough or a dull die was used. I meant put the locknuts on the same side. First one on as far as you can get it on, then through can, then 2nd lock nut. So from outside you have threads, center of nipple, threads, locknut, can, locknut. Guarantee it will work.
This is how I advised LT72884 how to do it.

LeckembyBrosCustoms:

Thank you for the heads up on Harbor Frieght, this is going to save me a lot.

Where do all you So-Cal residents get your wood? California Charcoal?

Hey 420, please go over the Cattle Call and introduce yourself so we can all give you a proper Brethren welcome.

I am interested in the lid, I got a second drun and cut the end off. I then used a body hammer and flared out the cut end to fit atop my drum.... I was a bit worried about the webber grill lids because that look like they just sit atop the drum. I am going to have to put exhaust holes and a handle but it seems to fit pretty good . I still need to try it out ... Norco I am definately interested in a lid that has been a sticking point for me... thanks Dan

Hey guys, I just joined and am having a hell of a time finding a barrel for a UDS build.

Sorry for the hijack, but for those in So-cal, where are you finding unlined open barrels? I live in Big Bear and don't have anything around me. If you guys could point me in the right direction on where to find some barrels, I would really appreciate it!!!!

I really like this build and will probably copy it.

There is a drum place just off the 60 at main, north of the freeway. I think it is called D&R , PM Garth57 he has been there.

worked great Thanks Norco for all the work that you did I followed you plans and it worked just like you said.... i was amazed the temp was a constant 220 for 8 hours. I used maybe 2.5lbs of lump charcoal. My family fought for 2nds. And there were no leftovers. I am greatful for all of your hard work thanks Dan
