If I were to designate one UDS just for ribs; could I make the racks closer (lower the top one)? Would this still work with a flat lid? Has anyone tried it?

I did something like that, one one of mine i made for competition i put the chicken rack on bottom and the rib rack on top. I will post pics later when i get home. It seems to work out ok with the flat lid. The UDS is a magic maker. Last weekend i put a brisket and two pork butts in and about 9 hours later I opened the lid and found 3 perfect pieces of meat.

I am almost done with my first UDS. I did the standard build.
Here's the charcoal basket. My inspiration. Almost done... Inside coated with shortening. I will do the seasoning burn tonight... probably cook something this weekend... and I have to wait for my artistically talented MIL from Germany to visit next month (when my wife pops out girl #3) to finish the Saint Arnold Brown Ale label paint job on the side. I need to look for some stencils for the bottle cap lid to finish that part.

For folks looking to put a dome lid on your UDS but don't want to beat the snot out of the Weber lids to make them fit or custom fab a new top ring of the drum, you can still get Kingsford lids from Masterbuilt's parts department for $19.99 + s/h.
Call 800-489-1581 and ask for a replacement lid for grill model #10040206 (Kingsford 22.5" Kettle Grill). They'll ask where and when you bought your grill. I said my roommate bought it last year at Target and that was fine. The guy I talked to said they only have a few left in stock as the model has been discontinued so if you want one, here's your chance!

I'm thinking about making a stand that sits on one rack for another rack to sit on that above that would space the racks about 3" apart. My first rack is 7" below the top so I could fit two in there but I just had a 12" flat top lid fabricated for me so I could fit many stacks of racks in there like that.
