do these actually do a decent job?
 
I have seen it done and it works. I haven't considered making one myself but I have no doubt that they will cook your food :)

yea, i wanted to make one but the price/cost was just to much to stomach.
 
One of the members of our BBQ team did it and claims that it works just fine.

Of course that was the second one that he built... The first one he didn't use new pots and lets just say that the fertilizer that was used on the previous resident was of a natural source (and you could taste it)... LOL
 
His most recent iteration is made from an army surplus wooden box.

Why go through all that to make an ECB electric.

What a knuckle head.

I've seen them used as hibachi's in Asia. Just wood charcoal in a clay pot, 4 one inch holes in the bottom sides for air and a grill on top. Great for searing steak and chicken. Not sure about a smoker though.
