...as chosen by ecode, the winner of the Fatty Throwdown!

With Halloween coming this weekend, most of us will be up to our eyeballs in candy. So why not figure out some creative ways to either make our own candy, or use all of that excess candy? This one should be interesting to say the least.

Click here to read the rules for the BBQ Brethren Throwdown...

You may submit entries that are cooked from Friday 10/29 through Sunday 11/7.

Entry pictures must be submitted by Midnight Central US Time on Sunday night 11/7.

By submitting entry photos to this Throwdown thread you are agreeing that you have read and understand the Throwdown Rules.

The voting will begin Monday 11/8 after I submit the "Vote" thread and will run through Friday 11/12. All votes will be public.

Don't forget, you can still enter the Home Made Bread Throwdown until Sunday night 10/31 by midnight Central time.

Our next category will be decided by the winner of the Something Crispy This Way Comes Throwdown!

Best of luck and even better eats to all!

Yowza a timely topic..Smoked Candied Pumpkins? :thumb:
Sounds great! A couple of the first things that came to mind for me were candied onions, candied yams, candied nuts, pig candy...there's really a lot of leeway here. I'm thinking I'll be doing something adventurous again!:becky:

Now THIS is going to be interesting...I have a feeling there will be some bacon showing up any moment.

Bacon is a crutch! Come one let's use some creativity...

Join me in taking the No Bacon Pledge!

Not if it's covered in caramel and enrobed in fine dark chocolate...:becky:

I will also pledge to not use bacon if I can cook this Throwdown. I wonder how my chocolate coated Fakon will work out.

This is one of those that is going to walk a fine line for me. If I do candied meat, my wife may doubt my creativity, if I use actual candy she may accuse me of wasting good candy. Hmmmm....

Somebody has to uphold some standards around here you know.

I actually have a couple of ideas already none of which involve bacon but, may have to throw some in to keep up w/ the bigabytes, :becky:

I whipped these up while I was waiting for the ribs to smoke.

Start with some flour, butter, sugar, honey, milk, vanilla and salt, and make a little graham cracker dough. Roll it out:

Fortunately I was using my SNPP for the tailgate 'Q, so I was able to toss some coals into the OTS, open up the vents and get that sucker up to about 400, which was just right to bake these little guys.

Then, I went inside, grabbed some corn syrup, sugar and gelatin. After a hot caramel/burns-like-napalm-on-your-skin bubble-over in the kitchen, I finally got the sugar mixture to the right temperature. 15 minutes in the stand mixer later and I've got a baking dish of homemade marshmallows.

An hour or two later, they are firm enough to cut. I laid out a nice slab of marshmallow atop the graham crackers, along with an arrangement of Toblerone.

20 minutes in the smoker later, you've got yourself a gooey delicious smore!
