Default multi fuel insulated offset and verticle smoker/grill

I have been lurking for awhile and currently have an Ok Joe bandera style smoker and a Weber performer. I have been considering what I thought would be the ideal multipurpose smoker/grill. I like the idea of an insulated smoker like a BWS but still enjoy playing with fire when I have time. I was thinking that an insulated offset with a smoker/warming box above the fire box and dampers between the firebox and the horizontal and vertical sections may be an ideal solution for me. The firebox could be multipurpose and be setup to burn sticks or for charcoal. Does anyone make something like this? I have to admit that I am intrigued by the idea of building myself, but with time constraints I may be better off purchasing something if it already exists. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I think an insulated cook box would be a problem

fires in stick burners still get pretty hot even small fires.

I think it would be hard to keep the temps down in an insulated cook chamber

Does the Lang have a way to use the warmer/vertical smoker by itself? I was thinking of a fire box and a dampers between the firebox and the vertical and horizontal sections that would allow either the horizontal or vertical sections to be used together or separate. My understanding is the Lang vertical section is more of a warmer and not a vertical smoker.

DownHomeQue,
That is some nice looking work on your build.

Lone Star Grillz can add an "oven" above the firebox to any of their smokers and can act as an oven using radiant heat only with no smoke or remove the isolation plate and use it as a vertical smoker.

Peeps,

Thank you for the information. I will give a call to Lone Star Grillz. The oven option above the fire box is somewhat similar to what I was thinking, but I was thinking of some kind of damper system between the two to be able to control the heat between the chambers vs a removable plate. Regardless, that is conceptually closest to what I have been envisioning that I have seen so far.

Untraceable,

Thanks for the info. I put a call into him. A few pits on his site looked to be the closest to what I had in mind that I have seen.

Mark,

Is that strictly an oven/warmer or do you have some kind of opening to the drum?
