I know exactly what you mean. I'm trying to decide what local I want to go to. I went to Shreveport last year. I think it has a little easier field, and we had a great time. The downside is that it's a week after the Shotgun Fred contest in Hunstville, TX. So far my schedule looks like:

2-28 - Shotgun Fred in Huntsville, TX
3-6 - Sam's Club in Shreveport, LA
or
3-13 - Sam's Club in Ft. Worth, TX
4-2 - Cedar Park BBQ in Cedar Park, TX

Right now I'm looking for a fun BBQ road trip for a contest in May or June. Would love to hear what some of the best/must attend competitions are around the country in those months. Would be even better if I could find one of them that has a comp on Saturday and Sunday so I get the most bang for my buck on my trip.

Right now my contest for May would be the Smokin In Mesquite Championship in Mesquite, NV.

Road trip on up to Westmont, IL! Its a double over Memorial Day weekend. It's a huge, well run contest.

We have started a list, but a lot is tentative at the moment. I hope to do at least 8 of them this year.

I've sent my money in for 3 -- Smoke on the Shores, Nashville, TN; BBQ & Blues, Hammond, LA; Blues Hog, Jackson, TN. Just printed out the flyer for Twin Cities Mardi Gras Cookoff in Monroe, LA -- it's IBCA and SCA with combined $10,000 in prize money and a $250 entry fee for both. I think I'll send my money in for that one, too. That fills up 1st quarter plus April fools day! 3 KCBS, 1 IBCA and 1 SCA, that's a good start for the year!

When you're planning your contest schedule -- Don't forget Arkansas Contests!

The Arkansas Diamond Cup will happen again for 2016! Last year top 3 point teams got a trophy and money. All you have to do is score top 10 overall at any sanctioned BBQ event in the State of Arkansas.

First KCBS is in Stuttgart, AR (duck hunting capital of North America!) April 29-30

Here's ours so far:

Jan 29-30 Lakeland Pig Festival Lakeland , FL
March 11-12 Flames on the Flint Bainbridge, GA
April 1-2 South Carolina - Georgia Border Cook-off Hardeeville, SC
May 13-14 Boss Hog State Championship Cook-Off Waynesboro, GA
May 27-28 Papa Joe's Banjo-B-Que & Music Festival Evans, GA
June 3-4 Sam’s Club Ashville, NC
July 8-9 SC Festival of Discovery Greenwood, SC
Aug 19-20 Classic City BBQ Fest Athens, GA
Sept 16-17 Smokin’ Pig Fest Lake City, FL
Oct 7-8 The Real Squeal BBQ & Music Festival Lyons, GA
Nov 11-12 Smoke on the Harbor BBQ Throwdown Mt. Pleasant, SC
Nov 18-19 Smokin’ Flamingo BBQ & Music Festival Jacksonville, FL

The only catch so far is Sam's...I can't get commitments from team mates that far out so depending on if Asheville fills up tonight, we may do another contest.

You boys doing the double header at Westmont? The apps are up for Westmont. The early bird goes until 4/1/16.

Also check out Dwight, IL. It was well run for a first year Co test last hear. Could get a little sloppy if it rains.
