Welcome!!!! About 7 hours west in Tuscaloosa Al is one of the highest quslity pit makers there is. PM one of the brethren TuscaloosaQ and/or search on his handle to see some quality builds. There might be some closer, but there ain't none better.

I too am from the surrounding Hickory area and have only found one place. It's called Marshall's in Mooresville. I didn't use the guy because when I gave him my specifics for an upright, cabinet style smoker he never got back to me. All I saw were off-sets. I've not seen the smokers in person so I can't testify to quality but I'm sure it's probably comparable to the others.

Good luck finding a quality pit builder in our area. There's a lot folks that will say they can build you whatever you want, but when it comes time to produce it want happen. I suggest either looking out of town for one and picking it up or have it shipped if your budget allows. If not build a couple of UDS's.

Born in Hickory here and most my family is still there. The simple answer is NO. There are a lot of the racing boys that'll hook you up with a carolina cooker pretty quick cause they are ALWAYS lookin for a reason to weld and to fund their Saturday night addiction. But, I doubt you want one like that.

So if I were you I'd call around to the guys with good reps in the region(lang ect) and work out a happy medium between options and your price range. Hop in the truck or a buddy's and go get that badboy yourself.
