Default CL SCORE!!! "Happy Cooker" 22" Kettle Grill

Found this on CL today, and went anf scooped it up after work.

uploadfromtaptalk1316144207855.jpg

Its a Happy Cooker Kettle Grill. The guy wanted $20 for it and I gave him $25. After looking around online I found that this was made by Weber and sold at Sears.

I took it home and put it straight to work.

I will take more pics and give more info tomorrow hopefully. But for $20 I am thrilled!

Two interesting things about it. One is the charcoal bowl. It has a porcelain coated bowl for the charcoal instead of a fire grate. It also obviously pre-dates the "One Touch" system. It has three simple daisy wheel intakes. I think I may end up preferring this. Seems like temp control might be more precise, and longer cooks a little easier. We shall see though.

The othe thing is a neat hook on the inside of the lid that lets you hang it on the edge of the bowl.

I will get pics of all this, and hopefully figure out the age of it asap.

I had a new Happy Cooker 27 years ago. There should be a grate that sits on top of the porceline coated pan for the charcoal. The pan is an ash catcher. Congrats!

Ok as promised here are more pics.

The ash catcher that I now know is not a fire bowl haha! (Thanks Brian in Maine!)

The lid hook

And the barely readable handle

Haven't found any date code yet to find out the age. Any ideas?

Please tell a newbie how to cook a bird like that.....my mouth is watering. I inherited a Happy Cooker when we purchased a lil trailer on the White Oak River. The Happy Cooker has turned out to be the best thing about the home.

Certainly! Not much to it though. Just rubbed it with olive oil, and seasoned with Tony Chachere's. Then indirect heat until the breast hit about 160* and then over direct heat to crisp up the skin.

Hope that helps!

Hang onto that ash tray!

Happy Cooker was its own brand.

Weber made a Sears Economy Kettle with the same ash tray, bolt on vents and wood handles. You can find it on the Weber parts schematics pages. Unfortunately Weber no longer stocks the ash tray. I think you get better fire control using the ash tray, especially if you have a Cajun Bandit!

Don't ask how I know!

Yeah the daisy wheel vents are definitely better for controlling airflow than the One Touch.

I also gave the guy I got my performer from an extra 25 (He was asking only 50 for a two year old Performer?!?) Turns out he was having to sell off a lot of stuff for financial reasons so I was glad to give him the extra.
