Picked up an old Kettle, 1985, and a new charcoal chimney for $5. Craigs list. The kettle was a sacrificial unit for the drum. Cut the top 1 1/2" off of the kettle bottom to use as a flange in the drum. Works great but no pics. The old Top was a rusty old thing with most of the porcelain worn off.

Knotted wheel, wire brush, sandpaper and lacquer thinner later it was ready for some high heat Dupli-color primer.

Then some Dupli-color engine paint in Chevy Red

The exhaust wheel was buffed out and replaced using a bolt/spring setup.

Here it is sitting on top of the newly named !redruM.

I'm pleased.

Nice idea on cuttin up the old kettle, would like to see some pics if possible.

Somewhere in the ginormous UDS thread is discussion of using a kettle for a flange. I do have one more drum and sacrificial kettle to go. When I get to it I'll take some pics and post them for you and others to enjoy.

Nice job. I took an extra flat drum lid and had the guys in our fab shop cut the id to fit the od of a Wally world weber knockoff and weld it all together.Painted it yellow to match my purple and yellow LSU drum :thumb:
