Started on my BGE cart today. No wood.
Steel frame, stainless top, gas burner discada on one end, BGE on the other. Aluminum tread plate enclosure, light, outlets, etc. |

SmokerKing keep us updated with pics please.
Sounds like your building whats beginning to run around in my head. Don't have the BGE yet but I have my discada and burner both from Disc-It. Looking forward to learning from your progress. Blessings

There are some beautiful tables with great attention to detail on this thread. I really like that granite top.
I have 14 3/4" spacing and my hinge almost touches the table top when fully opened. 15 wouldn't give me enough spacing for my large egg. If I were doing any mods on mine, the first thing I would do is- in front of the intake, I would extend the fire proof surface out to the edge of the shelf. This would make ash removal and cleaning easier and keep any potentially hot coals off the urethane. I wouldn't be so cheap next time. Instead of using all left over wood and materials and building to what I had, i would buy everything exactly as I wanted. I see my cheapness every time I look at my table! Looking forward to seeing the all metal tables. Last edited by h20loo; 05-08-2011 at 07:37 AM.. Reason: clarity!!! |

Well, to glom on to this thread, I plan on building a table for my BGE also. Although I haven't decided on a counter top material, the frame will be built like this Brethren did...

My biggest cart realization was that you add and remove a lot of very HOT components during some grillings, and you need a spot to place them that won't be affected by the heat.
I started building a table from Cedar that I had, and it looks great. I covered with layers of epoxy and polyurethane. Still looks great. These are plastics that will melt / burn. Not a great idea. Burn marks don't look great So next time I'd go stainless, stone or maybe a poured concrete countertop as I've seen some do. |

I used cedar but left it untreated. It will turn gray and over time will end up with a lot of ash marks. I'll call that patina. I used the cutout parts of the hole to make a board. I use that a lot to place the hot stuff on.
