Default Food Grade Drum Motherload...

The company I work for is just up the street from Stock Pot...(Campbell's Soup)...so I called their warehouse manager about possible drums. He has about 30 that contained vegetable oil...not sure if they are lined...but they have removable lids (banded). Gonna stop by on my way home for a look see. If any brothers in and around my area need a couple just let me know.

Hey Brian...it's time brother...no more excuses for me. It's time to get big and ugly!

Ugly maidens (to be) all in a row...

There were literally hundreds in their warehouse...I was offered as many as I wanted...FREE...amazing! These all contained olive oil...some others had canola oil or tomatoes. I can't wait to get started. I was going to one a few months ago but was leery of the drum I had gotten that contained machine coolant. Should be fun...plus I have a resident UDS building expert (Swamprb) just up the road to give me a few tips.

Did you get these at the StockPot on Hwy.9 ??
I called them last March and they told me all they had were closed drums and I was welcome to them. The neighbors are gonna love you when you burn those out!
Unless you have the lids and bands on the bottom, those are closed drums.

Nope...got them at the factory on Merrill Creek Parkway. They ARE closed (banded)...the warehouse manager (Todd) said they pop off fairly easy...we'll see. If not I have the technology to remove it...

Whatcha doin' this weekend BUDDY...

Banded/closed, same thing! Stop by and grab a kettle lid and see if it fits before you cut.

Burnin' meat AND drums I suppose! Can you scrounge up some pallets for the fire?

You know what they say....once you go drum, you might as well bring the WSM's over and leave them here, you won't be needing them anymore!!

If its got any kind of lining, you should burn it off, but we'll see! All the food grade drums I've seen that contained, honey, coconut oil, fruit mash etc., all had an epoxy like lining-and from the posts I've read of people burning them out its been a PITA. I had a drum that contained bearing grease, that had a painted primer coating that burnt off really easy. I've just been fortunate to find unlined drums and not have to deal with it.
I suppose its like wanting to use galvanized steel in making a pit, when does galvanized become toxic, what is the composition of the lining of the drum and at what temp does it become unhealthy. Fark! People have been using oil drums for years before we started building UDS's.
