CATEGORY DESCRIPTION - READ BEFORE ENTERING



1. This is a SEMI OPEN CATEGORY, meaning you can cook anything you like as long your entry contains CHICKEN.

2. MULTIPLE ENTRIES ARE ALLOWED and encouraged for this TD only!





You may submit entries that are cooked from Friday 8/31 through Monday 10/1/18.

Entry pictures must be submitted by 12 p.m. Central US Time on Monday 10/1/18.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but I posted this Throwdown entry thread 12 days after it was supposed to start.



Nonetheless, I kept the original start date of 8.31, which means if you have a chicken Q-talk cook thread that was posted from 8.31- 9.10, then it would be a valid entry in this TD.

I am new here so hope I do this correctly - I wish to be entered into the throwdown and I would like to use the first photo. So I injected thighs, frig for an hour or so, then rubbed, smoked with apple and pecan @225 for 1 hour, foil pan/cover, increased smoker to 275 for 50 minutes, coated and grilled @ 400 for maybe 6 minutes or so. I will include some other photo's, not sure what is typical so I apologize if I got carried away

And the Viking play the Packers Sunday so that makes it Chicken Wing Day! With a hangover, no doubt, since Octoberfest is tomorrow!
 
Soon they will tell you that you need to decide which photo is your entry photo.Good looking bird.
 
Oh man...I'm trying to purge both my freezers of all the random meat I have stashed away and it's mostly chicken lol. :mrgreen: timely throw down for sure.
 
My most recent batch of wings:

Another day, another flavor experiment. This experiment's flavor: Atomic City Caribe sauce.

Since this experiment was a last-minute decision, I had about an hour to let the wings dry in the fridge before baking, vs. the normal 24 hours. Skin turned out slightly less crispy (no surprise), but very much on par when I bake wings that were marinaded overnight, vs. left to air-dry. Quite tasty.

Prepped the wings as normal; seasoned w/ Penzey's adobo seasoning. Usual oven-cooking method: 1 hour @ 400°, flipped halfway thru. Once cooked, basted both sides of the wings w/ Caribe, back into the oven for ~7 more min to let the sauce set up.

Verdict: Tasty, AF.
 
Make sure you let the mods know which photo to use for your entry. Otherwise they'll just pick one and it might not be the one you want to use as your entry.
