That meat looks great Razr.. and please thank your son for his service!

One last noob question... These are the barrels I referenced in my prev post and am thinking about going to pick up: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/grd/3184590584.html

Notice that there is a ridge located near the top of the barrel? Is this going to be problematic for my build? On most of the UDS I see the ridges are closer to the center... I am worried that the screws holding the top grate might have to go in at an angle or it may be problematic due to the location of the ridge

Not an issue if you use these dim's or a variaiation. might be if you use a dome depends on the location of your first rack...

And thanks for the the comment about my son's I actually have (2) in The Marines. Our eldest Is actually in Afghanistan at this time until Nov. Or Dec. The youngest just moved back from Okinawa, Japan and is now living in Jacksonville, NC with his family. They are both Helicopter mechanics so no dangerous duty, Thank God!

hey that's great, thanks! So much useful info :)

I think that will work perfect. I will rarely have to use the bottom rack anyways. I plan on drilling the holes and inserting screws for it, but I am usually cooking for 4 or less people, so the second rack is barely even necessary. I am only adding for the very occasional large gathering or to be able to insert something to diffuse the heat when necessary. Gonna go try and pick barrels up, wish me luck! :)

Thanks a million times Norcoredneck for all your hard work. The other UDS thread with almost 700 pages would have taken me a year to read with my 4th grade reading level

I know this is an OLD thread. But I'm building my first UDS and this seems to be one of the best build threads. Unfortunately the photobucket linked pictures don't seem to show anymore. Is there any way to see the pictures??? Or was this thread archived anywhere??

The Mother of all UDS threads has MORE information...but this is the one I used when I made my first in 2013(?). All the info you need, none of what you don't.

Thanks for bumping it.
