I found an old Weber to be used for my UDS. It is safe to say it has been neglected. It is missing a handle, has rust spots and turned gray. I can fabricate a new handle. Just wondering what I can do about the gray color. Is there anything I can do to get the original black color back? I think I'm destined to paint the whole lid.

Yup you are going to repaint that puppy! Sand off what you can of the cr*p and then use a high temp paint from your auto parts store. I use the 550 degree paint which is available in gloss black. Really light coats to begin. Dries really fast. Needs 3 coats. Shouldn't take you 30 minutes.

most hardware store will have high temp stuff in the 1200-1500 deg range.

Ok... so, what about repairing a blue Weber lid, with a couple of large chips??

Same process, but use blue paint. It will probably be Ford blue so you may have to do the bottom also.
