Default Weber kettle UDS mod

I was thinking, if the lid from a kettle fits a 45 gallon drum, wouldn't the base fit as well? Assuming of course the addition of a flange so the drum slots inside the base. De-lid the bottom and place it on top of the base. Add flange so it slots inside the base and sits on top. Cut down and bend the legs of the kettle (or make shorter new ones) and you have an instant UDS. Three vents ready to go, easy access to ash, charcoal grate just needs a ring and you are set to Q.

Anyone tried this? Cool part is if you make the shorter legs the kettle is still unmodified.

It would look like a huge @ss WSM but still basically function like a UDS.

Somebody did this a while back... I can't remember who. It worked well. Seems like it was with a OTG.

Mike:

Yes you can stretch a Weber kettle (and similar) into a big WSM with a section of a 55-gallon drum. Here's one example and how the same extension ring is used on my UDS.
