Wonder If I Can Find A Local Pizza Stone

I suppose there's not much chance I'll find a decent stone locally. Maybe in Lowes or Home Depot Grill Departments?

I have an urge to do some baking in my new BGE
 
At some point I would suggest you get the BGE stone. It's made from the same material as the Egg, nice and thick. Really like mine.
 
More likely in their flooring departments. Google QUARRY PIZZA. You'll get many responses with good advice.

I cracked a couple of cheapo stones before I wised up and got a BGE stone. It is very thick and can definitely take the heat.

I use the cheap pizza stones as heat sinks in the big bullet water pans. They do and will crack. If you plan to use one in the Egg, be aware.
 
They don't stock them, no, Tried to buy one there when I bought the BGE. They can order but I'm in the mood today


I would place the order, and do it right the first time...The BGE stone is worth the wait IMO.

Yup! I see them all the time at places that sell cookware, and I too have seen them at BB&B.

Home stores, like Bed Bath and Beyond have el cheapo pizza stones...they work in a pinch but I have shattered a number of them while using them in my oven (500 + degree's preheated stone and a room temp pizza).

Order the BGE stone, or there are a number of places on line where you can get thick stones but you will have to wait to get them.

Conversekidz: Wow that Fornobravo stone looks very serious. Not bad at $50. That seems like the best stone yet, but you feel there's a supply / lead time issue?

There wasn't even a garbage stone available locally. So I'll get the BGE or that serious looking Fornobravo
 
Charcoal with less taste? For Baking.

For cooking some things a flavored charcoal can't be beat. By flavored I mean with Hickory, etc. Just picked up some Stubbs today to try for the first time.

But if you're cooking something that you'd like the benefits of dry wood heat in a clay oven without a strong charcoal taste, what do you use? Oak?
 
i use a slab of inch and half thick scrap granite from my counter. works like a champ! look on craigslist and you can find granite scraps super cheap.
 
Last ditch for local, is see if their is a pampered chef consultant in your town. Their stoneware is really good. Not sure how it would do in your BGE
 
Try a ceramic supply place, where they sell kilns and clay and such. They have round half round and other shapes of exactly what pizza stones are for half the price! They are kiln shelving! Funny huh?
