Default Help from the eggheads please

I am planning on changing my gasket today but I am not sure on how to keep my spring closed while I take off the bands.I was thinking of a zip tie on each side but not sure if it will hold or not.Just wondering if anyone has any ideas that have worked?

I used zip ties when i did mine and they held just fine, the zips wanted to slip backwards so pull them as tight as you can. Good Luck.

I was going to replace with Nomex, but concluded I'd burn that out as well. I may go bare, adjusting the bands to accomodate

I put my Nomex on without removing the bands. Not sure why you would have to. Yes it will be easier to put the new gasket on but I didn't find it to be a big deal. I was told to use acetone to remove the old gasket/glue and it worked fine and 3m super 77 spray adhesive for the new - so far so good... its been about 4 months and its holding up great and still looks new

I like to do pizza at 750+ so I run into high temp gasket problems. I am going to see how much loss I have with scraped clean surfaces and no gasket at all. Otherwise I'm using the squeeze tube liquid gasket. Much higher temp resistance.

what about the plastic "tabs" that came on the bands? If you possibly still have those you can simply put em back on to hold the tension. Just a thought

Cause he didn't. If you watch the video, he did not compress the springs.

I just scraped mine off, and applied the new high heat gasket on the bottom only. There was no need to remove anything, works great on one surface only.
