UDS Question...
I wanted to post this with the mega thread, couldn't find it.
Question for you smart guys, Norco, are you listening? Got a nice Weber 22.5 donor lid which I'm thinking needs a bunch of holes drilled into it to alive any possibility of the hot spots normally associated with the standard Weber exhaust. My plan is to leave the exhaust baffle attached but in a fixed position on the origional lid and drilling some holes which should in theory, alleviate the hot spot problem and work much in the same fashion as the flat top with eight .5"holes. I need some feedback on this one. Kinda kicking things up a notch, I think. Weiser

How many holes and where? I am using the weber lid mod as we type. I am waiting for my 9lb picnic and 12 lb fresh ham to get over their 4 hr(so far) plateau. Are hot spots a real issue. If so, are they opposite the exhaust holes. Does it matter if you are doing thinner types of meat, well below the lid?
Just asking.

What is this hot spot you speak of?
Honestly, it's not bad enough to start butchering your kettle lid. If it's bugging you, rotate your lid as you cook!

Good point. With the Weber lid all you do is spin it. Don't have to lift at all.

After reading the UDS Bible several times the hot spot issue popped up
occasionally. Maybe it isn't an issue at all... I dunno. The lid and drum are going to the powder coaters next week so I wanted to have all necessary holes drilled prior. Spinning the lid is too obvious! Why didn't I think of that? Duh! Weiser

Well I figured that I already have one of the ugliest ones here
so, I'm building a purty one this time. The powdercoater seems to be less than in a hurry. Weiser

i would leave it a lone, spin as you go. i have a uds with a weber 22.5" grill lid and it seems to work fine. all i hade to do was bend out the bottom a bit to get it to fit snug. just my 2 cents!!
