Our mission statement is clear...
"...Our purpose is to keep the cook teams, front and center, with all sanctioning, judging and contest administration processes and procedures..."

With that said, we will be implementing a change in the Judging process, specifically the make up of the judging pool. In Hattiesburg, we will be making it a requirement that each team provide 1 Judge. The person who turns in the entry will remain in the Judging area, take a seat and judge that category. Teams will NOT be judging their own entries! The exception will be 1 man teams and we will fill that slot with an alternate.

What is driving this shift, is the need to have cooks entries judged and commented on, by people who understand the entire cooking process. Our best Judge this past weekend was one of our competitors who couldn't cook, but decided to Judge. Cooks know what goes into the entire process and are in the best spot to provide constructive comments. We can, and did, provide Judge training so in essence, all of our judges were "certified", but their level of understanding of the complexity of the cooking elements wasn't there to be able to provide the feedback our cooks need to get better.

We believe, this process will yield GREAT results for our cooks. They, themselves will have the opportunity to evaluate entries and in the process, learn elements of what they are doing right and where they need to improve. As an organization, we believe that our community of cooks will embrace this adjustment and apply the judging process with honor and integrity, because that's the kind of people we are.

We will have additional spots open to bring in outside Judges and table captains. Our goal is to fill those spots with people who have cooked competitions first, and are certified in other organizations second.
We are brand new at all this with a drive to establish the UCBL experience as one that cooks recognize as profitable on the competition level.
