Bittersweet comp for us...

People's Choice Pork - 1st
Loin - 5th - 168.5714

Chicken - 11th - 160.5714
Ribs - 13th - 161.7140
Pork - 1st - 169.7142
Brisket - 46th - 132.5710
Overall - 14th of 50 - 624.5710 (-32.5722)

Goes to show that in order to win the whole enchilada, ya gotta be on your game for all 4 categories.

If we could have turned in a 27th place brisket we could have finished 3rd overall, a 22nd place brisket would have earned 2nd, and a 10th place brisket well ... we'll keep the dream alive. (I know, candy and nuts ...) After some thought, discussion and review of the brisket photos, we learned that notes can't always just be followed step by step - sometimes adjustments to the plan should to be made in order to turn in the best possible box with what you have.

Lots of friends from both the KC area and throughout IA there and with the sun and temp in the mid 60's - made for a great weekend.

Great Job! Great Job! to the Olsen twins, Ray & Jay. You guys looked solid in your first comp as a team. I might be able to help you out with the pork, what do you have in trade?

Olsen twins? I dont think they could handle BBQ. We could trade our pork for yours, but I have a feeling that you wouldnt go for that. Go job guys, see ya down the road.
 
Thought I'd show our loin presentation - it earned 9's for appearance across the board from all 6 judges and finished 5th.

As you can see it was a free for all as far as presentation rules (and the name of the competition was Apple Blossom):

The credit for this one goes to Don. I just put down the bed of greens and added the apple blossoms - that Don send our dad on a field trip to get.

The green apple is full of BBQ sauce, the red apple has carmel. The sliced apples in front were warmed with brown sugar (and butter I think???). The upper right is an apple relish.
