I don't know how to figure diameter. If my 12"x24" is only going to come out to be 7 1/2" then I'm taking it back and buying this sheet..
What will the diameter of the 12"x48" come out to be?
EDIT:
After thinking about this a little more I'm assuming... if 24" = 7.5" then 48" = 15"

length (48") divided by pi (3.14) so that would give u a ring of about 15.25" and 12" tall...

I have a 16" grate 3" from the bottom of my barrel the ring will be 12"x15.25" if I buy this 24"x48" sheet. Will this be sufficient for my fire ring?

well easy answer... no, but yes... better answer is... it will not wrap around the grate so that the grate sits inside the ring, BUT you can attach the ring to the grate on the bottom with wire or weld it... ;)

One problem after the next... I'm glad you guys are here for support lol. I'm limited on my metal workings skills and tools to build with. You will notice allot of things I did different when I post the pictures of my barrel one because I don't have the tools. And I don't have allot of money so I'm trying to find the cheapest route on everything.

This stuff seems to be pretty stong, how do I round it up to make a cylinder shape. Would I be better off making a square fire ring?
Would it be called a fire box instead of a fire ring since it's square? haha

You wont have a problem getting it round. Use a bucket or something and have the bolts, nuts, fender washers ready to go.

This square is something I thought might be real good as a square box but I think some folks on here may tell you that it would burn through relatively quickly...I'm not sure.

Thanks sfbbqguy, so Guess I don't weld the basket but I bolt it together?

Right. Lots of folks don't weld. If you use a charcoal grate you can wire the Expanded Metal to the grate after you've bolted it and shaped it. Or you can use laundry line hooks in the EM and they will hold the basket to the grate and function as legs for the basket.
There are literally hundreds of ways to make the charcoal basket.
Also will want to get yourself a pizza pan or something to function as an ash catcher so you don't have to dig the ash out of the drum after each cook.
Lots of info in the Ugly Drum Smoker thread...

roll that 14 x 51 pc around a propane tank or something round and then bolt the ends together with some stainless bolts, washers, and nuts, and there you go!

should get you a diameter of 16 1/4"
