Can anyone recommend a good injector? I'm tired of buying the crappy ones from the grocery store that only last a few months before they break.

I make a great one out of a pump up sprayer... got sick & tired of refilling the syringe every 2 min... when injecting several butts or briskets this makes quick work of em.

The small diameter needle keeps the juices from just leaking back out of the typical massive hole most injectors have.

You can get longer needles too, but this 1 3/4" one is my fav since it flips around backwards and stores inside the tip

Here is a cut and paste from a previous thread.

The injector Myron uses is the F Dick Brine Pump.

It is on the web at several places for about $140 or so.
Example only:

I won't say it is great (but it is ) , but I own two, one is a backup.
My part time partner has one we carry when he is cooking on the team.
I use it heavily at home and at comps.

Great tool for those who are serious about injecting.
I pump briskets and butts up till they look like a basketball.
Just me.

The skipjack and the pressure pump injectors are great also.

Lots of good injectors out there.
Pick the one that meets your needs.

How much liquid is wasted with your injector? In other words, how much liquid is left in the reservoir when the needle starts spitting air?

None really, the bottom of the sprayer has 5 depressed "wells" like the bottom of a 2L pop bottle, the straw to the injector hose sits in one of those depressions, once the liquid gets low enough, you just tip the bottle to the side that the pick-up straw is on...

Also, there's no cross contamination since you're not putting a needle into raw meat and back into the injection liquid to fill, any juice left over in the sprayer bottle can be saved for something else or another time.

I have the second one listed and have been happy with it so far. That said I only use it for small cooks. I picked mine up at our local Gander Mountain and they did not sell the 9 inch model. If they did I would have picked that one as it also holds twice as much (4 oz).

How much to make one?

I am amazed at how good the KnucklHed injector feels in the hand and how easy it is to use. I don't use it all that much but when I do I go all out with it!

Like pumping up a football!

Get you one!

I've been using this one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for a few years now...works great and clean up is a breeze! :thumb:

I ordered three awhile back from Butcher BBQ along with their injections just because I thought they were so cheap I'd go through 'em. Still on my first one and it's working great.

I've been using the cheap ones from the Cajun Marinade folks...

I have two and they've lasted through four comp seasons. They fit my hand very well so I just keep using them.

The ones from Butcher BBQ are nice and work well, but they don't fit my hand as well.

Todd (Plowboy) had one at his class in Michigan last year that was nice. It was a trigger type that had a hose that he put into a jug of injection. I can't find it around here.

I've also looked at this one...

http://amzn.com/B002U9JSZ2

but it only holds 6oz. so I've have to refill it a couple of times. I guess it's cheap enough to try it out.

I like Knucklhed's design and would definitely look at one of those if I were doing large amount of butts or briskets or whole hogs.

Now don't get your knickers in a twist. Forget that cheap and fancy chit. Go down to a store that sells cow and horse supplies like Co-Op or TSC. Get a syringe and needle that will last a lifetime.
