OK, Got this far with it, how much more do I need to finish it? What tools do I need to best cut it out and make the appropiate bends?

u need a good tin snips, roto tool or dremel to cut it out.

You can bend it with a couple of sections of 2x4 about 12-14 inches long, and a rubber mallot. Use them as you would use a brake. Score the bends with the rotozip wheel, a chisel or whatever. It will help get clean bends.

a drill to drill out the 2 holes.

Not that it would matter much, But I think the tabs go inside the firebox. When I did mine, i put them in the chamber like you did and the designer corrected me.

i left it and it worked fine.

worked out alright with the tin snips, I guess!

n3ext mod should be a new firegrate and then the door gasket.

fire grate is a must! If youy only have the stock one that sits on the firebox floor, you'll get frustrated. It doesnt allow for enough airflow under the fire. You have to raise it up onto one of the rails.

Yeah well I wasn't sure of that but I did know that the upper lip was supposed to be tucked in between the the smoke box and firebox but I had trouble with the left side (rear of box) couldn't clear a clean path up there so I mounted the way it would fit clean:

Man, this thread takes me back a few years. Back to 2003 when we were new born and called ourselves the Bandera Brethren.:thumb:

BOT: Nice job on the mods.

Yes I guess it took me a while to find you guys and the great idea's here. I wasn't sure of how many of these models were around and always had temp problems with mine.

I was actually looking for more or the round offset model and this one happened to turn up at the Home Depot one day and I grabbed it!

The recent Sandy hurricane up north here nearly destroyed it, not really but turned it on end and broke the wheels off and I found your site that way and have since marveled at the all the old threads on this model.
