I need some help! I'm heading to Nashville in March and need to know of any top notch BBQ joints to check out while I'm there. Thanks for any advice.

Depending on what part of town you will be in, if you make it to the east side of town, specifically Lebanon, TN, there is a spot called Tom's Blue Moon BBQ. So far, in my year of living in the Nashville area, Blue Moon BBQ is probably my favorite. I also like Martin's BBQ Joint and eat there about every other week. Peg Leg Porkers is good as well.

Martin's blows my mind every time I eat there. It's constantly singled out as one of the best in the country. That said, Nashville isn't really a bbq town. We're known for two things. Well actually maybe three -- hot chicken, Haute Southern Cuisine and meat and threes. Prince's is the most famous of the hot chicken joints and is always visited by leading chefs when they come to town. Other good ones are Hattie B's and 400 degrees. Medium is hot and hot is dangerous.
I know talking great restaurants to a 2nd City resident is humbling but we've got a few restaurants featuring upscale versions of down home favorites and getting written up in every major food and travel guide. A meat and three is a protein and three sides. Arnold's Country Kitchen is the top of the heap. Here's a link to a video the James Beard foundation made when they awarded Arnold's a Southern Heritage award. http://youtu.be/Ca6ES3JpteI I know you didn't ask but if you have the urge to go honkytonk'n Robert's Western World on Broadway is the one to go to. Oh, and don't be embarrassed to go to the Country Music Hall of Fame. We always take or send our visitors there and they're always shocked at what a great time they had. Enjoy your visit and let us know how it goes.

I've only eaten there once with the wife but I can't see bothering to go back. The pulled pork was mushy and bland. The ribs were falling off the bones and average at best. The sides were ok though I did like the mac and cheese. Also, Peg Leg kept using the P.A. to yell to folks in the restaurant that he apparently knew. Most of what he said was garbled from yelling into P.A. and while he seemed to think he was amusing from the customer side it was just annoying while trying to eat.
We ate at Husk last time when we were in Nashville in January and it was farkin' amazing. Not really BBQ but everything we had at our six-top was amazing. |

If you've time the Slick Pig over in Murphreesboro is good. I loved their smoked wings. It's just a very short drive away from the MTSU campus. I'll also add Martin's BBQ though I've never eaten there but a friend did & loved it

I ate there once and wouldn't go back. Martin's Belmont Ave. location is open now and Jack Cawthorne opened a Jack's on Charlotte and 16th.

When in Nashville
I can agree about Martins. Try their redneck taco. It is a corn hoecake topped with pulled pork, slaw and sauce. Their BBQ beans are to die for. Also find Hog Heaven. It is a little stand next to Centennial Park. I know it is a tourist place but the Loveless Cafe makes a good pork sandwich in their little store. There are also several Jim and Nicks around town. They are a chain but have decent BBQ. People fight over their corn muffins. Have fun as it is a great town to visit.

I've been gone about 8 years, but Judge Beans BBQ used to be really good. Not sure if it is still there?
