Default Chicago - Duck at SunWahBbq

I went to the Cubs home opener Friday with a buddy and we decided to get some duck as a pregame meal. It didn't disappoint like the Cubs....

Sun Wah Bbq is 5039 N Broadway St, Chicago, IL 60640

Here's the storefront. It doesn't look like anything special on the outside.

Ducks hanging in the window.

The inside is pretty large though. It wasn't very crowded for lunch, but this place gets pretty busy in the evening.

When you order a duck, they carve table side and then take carcass and turn it into soup and fried rice.

Carving...

Duck, with hoisin, julienne vege on a bao.....

Soup....

Fried Rice...

After eating, we asked if we could see the kitchen. They said they sell 120-150 ducks a night on average.

They get washed in a Chinese vinegar marinade...

Then hung to dry.

These ducks are getting a different Bbq preparation.

They also go through a fair amount of pigs.

This is one of their original cookers. It will hold one large pig, or 18 ducks.

This is one of the new cookers, with a pig that had come out recently.

The duck was superb, too bad the weather and the Cubbies didn't deliver the same way. Will definitely be back for duck and my poor Cubs.

Great coverage of an old style Duck and BBQ-Chinese style. I love a little slice of duck, the crispy skin on a bao, so good.

The pig is quite nicely done, we used to order that stuff by the pound, it was so crispy on the skin, tender meat

I'll be back for sure. Next time I hope to bring a group and order a pig as well as duck. The smallest pig you can order is 35 pounds. All in all a great place and the duck was outstanding.
