Wood Chunks or Lump Charcoal ?

I have a new Ole Hickory Ultra Que Gas Smoker. Question? Will I get as much smoke flavor putting Lump Charocal in the fire basket, as I do Wood Chunks. Is there any reason to use both at the same time? My first thought is I have no reason to use the Lump Charcoal, unless I decide to turn off the gas and use it as the main heat source.

Thoughts from the experts? :?:

No. You'll get more flavor from wood chunks.

I'm not familiar with your smoker but I gather it is multi-fuel propane, and or wood/lump/briquettes.

Given your locale, wood chunks should be free. Everything else you have to pay for. So maximize your use of wood.
