It has come to my attention that not everyone knows how to cook a steak without relying on totally unnecessary gadgets and gizmos.

The method is basically the same as when grilling, except you will have to have your butter pre-melted to baste the steak with. If you can't figure out how to put heat on the fat on the steak, don't worry about it. REally though, it shoudln't be too hard for you to figure out.

Thanks Chris Normally I prefer top grill my steaks- I did want to eat that

Yeah, I pretty much only eat grilled and smoked meat, but that really looks good!

My life got much better when I started cooking by feel.

Thanks for putting that up!

Skillet fried steaks are DA BOMB. Sometimes I actually prefer them. In fact, I pan fried some beautiful ribeyes in the skillet for my birthday this year.

Great vid! I suck at skillet frying a steak. When a rain comes in at grill time, I fry. Not too good either. Gonna give that one a whirl, thx Chris.

A rib-eye in a cast-iron skillet is hard to beat. The great crust that forms can not be acheived any other way.

You're actually admitting that an Englishman can cook a steak :twitch:

They can be awesome, especially cooked in heavy cast iron. However, you need a vent hood that vents to the outdoors -- or turn off all the smoke alarms in your house.

I'd eat that, but wouldn't cook with a non-stick pan at such high heat due to the gases released (or so I hear). Unless I'm cooking galvanized MSG steaks that is. He probably missed that little tidbit about non stick pans while fiddling around with that thermo! If you don't give the steak full attention it can catch fire, or so I read somewhere here recently. So watch the steak, not the thermo.

If you have the new ceramic-coated pans, which I understand you would not know about, as they are not BBQ items, per se, you can go high heat with them.

Another Brit...so I guess that means he can't cook either. He also uses non stick pans. Might be a Brit thing...
