In order of quality of fit and finish..... JJ - Horizon -............. Lang.

The operation of these are not the same. JJ and Horizon are standard offsets while the Lang is a reverse flow.

I have a unit similar to Horizon's 20" Classic, and I have a Lang 1160. They cook
very different, even though they're both offsets. The reverse flow has a bit of
a convection type of thing going on... I dont think you'd be disappointed with
either.

The tuning plates on the Horizon's make a big difference, not all models have them. Something to consider when comparing to other offsets. I am extremely impressed by the quality (material, welds, function, and finish).

So .......

If fit and finish are key components for a decision vs functionality in an offset, would we have:

Klose
Gator
JJ
Horizon
Lang?

It appears to me like you are getting a little more for your money on the base price with the Lang. They are all 1/4 inch carbon steel. Even Horizon, Yoder, Lyfe Tyme and the like have gaps in the fit of the cooking lid. Trying to get the most for my money and right now the Lang, with its convection reverse flow built into the base price, seems to be it. I'm open to to reaseon, however.

I can't speak to the others, but I do have two Langs and can tell you that they are great.

My Lang is very old by most standards, and it still cooks great. While I love the snazzy
look of a few others, if I were to trade it I'd certainly trade it for a Lang 84 Deluxe.

Fit and finish go hand in hand with functionallity. You get what you pay for and at this level of investment I would recomend saving a bit more and getting somethig top of the line.

More like:

Jambo
Gator - Klose
JJ
Horizon - Lyfe Tyme
Lang

You need to consider what is closer because shipping will be a game changer.

Thanks, Zilla. I appreciate your thoughts. Yup, shipping is a game changer all right. I have seen the horizons up close and personal, including the gaps in the fit of the cooking chamber doors at Bass Pro. I just don't have the money for a Gator or Klose. The JJ "Smokey" is what I am considering. I do want to see a Lang up close. Anyone in Southern California have one?? Again, much food for thought,Zilla.

Thanks to all for the reply post to this thread. I have been considering one of these myself and this is a really tough decision especially when you look at the total cost for the size I'm considering.

I know the owners of Klose, Gator, and Pits By JJ, also Pitmaker. All know what the are doing, make fine products, and have great reputations; you will be happy with either choice. You also have got some great advice from folks here. Best of luck on your choice

I would have to put pitmaker up there in the quality charts as well...they are some incredible pits - very well built and the price reflects it
