Memphis in May vs American Royal in KC
I'm planning a road trip with a few guys for next year. We want to attend a good BBQ festival, and my impression is that the best options are Memphis in May and the Royal in KC.
-Q: Are those the best 2 to consider as far as a fun time with a few guys (not serious BBQ guys) to eat and drink and have a good time? -Q: If those are the best, which of the 2 would you go to for a guys weekend?

If I hadto choose just one competition to have a lot of fun at, the "Best in the West Nugget Rib Cookoff" would be my choice.
I've never seen so many people gathered for BBQ in one place, it's huge!!! 3 miles East of Reno 30 miles North of Carson City 139 miles East of Sacramento, California 232 miles East of San Francisco 337 miles North of Las Vegas Last edited by IamMadMan; 10-08-2017 at 03:51 PM.. |

I've not been to the Royal but unless you know someone on a team at Memphis in May you won't get to see much behind the scene. They make very impressive displays that hide what's going on with the teams. There will be some food vendor's but no samples.

Royal
Same thing at the royal. Never forget the first time I visited the Royal, prior to getting into competition bbq, and had to pay $10 for a terrible "bbq beef" sandwich.
