Thanks because I was told the IMUSA didn't fit. I would rather get that and do some crimping and not let go of the 65. Frugal guy right here

My lid didn't fit initially, but it was close. I took a c-clamp around the lip of the pot and crimped the lip slightly all the way around. After 2 gentle passes around, it fits. I could probably stand one more pass on the crimping, as once it heats up, it is a tight fit. But, no leaks ;)

Thanks for all the replies folks this is a project I will most likely be doing between Thanksgivings and new years and I'm just making sure I know what I'm getting into before hand. Never built my own smoker before and thought it would be fun. So Thanks again for all the input especially Fwismoker!

If I had do-overs. I would do the SJ Gold and cut the tamale pot bottom instead of drill and use the enclosed steamer plate as diffuser. That's it. IMUSA was easy to find, once I looked in the right place. Kitchen gadget isle at Albertsons and United grocery stores always have in stock. . My lid does not fit like a Velcro ball cap but it gunked up and seals perfectly no leaks in one chicken cook. And I am probably the only one that can tell it's not a perfect fit.

The great thing about building your own is there are zero warranty issues. You own it. Jack with it to your individual hearts content.

You can buy the Vasconia steamer from Pfaltzgraff's website. Currently you can get 30% off with TAKE30 promo code and then they have 20% off for pre-Black Friday. I just bought mine for $29.78 shipped.
