I have owned three pellet smokers in my time, and use them often.

As people before have mentioned, it is definitely up to your tastebuds. It is definitely not a heavy smoke, but always a good clean smoke. I have never tasted any bad smokey flavor on my food like I have off of some other smokers. It is super consistent in its flavor too. All of my friends and family that I have cooked for seem to think it just the right amount of smoke flavor. The brand and type of pellets you use can have a dramatic effect too. So I suggest experimenting with different brands of pellets.

Those of us that use pellet smokers catch a lot of grief from the more traditional people, but it is worth it for the food and ease of use that these things put out every time.

While everyone has different tastes and expectations, my Traeger produces plenty of smoke....never had a complaint about the smoked meats it provides.

Default Smoke flavor from pellet grills

Thanks guys! I appreciate the replies and picture. I'll try wood on the fire pot and expanded metal modification for smoke. As mentioned, I think I need to try different pellet manufacturers too as the flavor on my first run was way different than I'm used to. I used Traeger this time. Those of you that are die hard pellet users, what other brands would you recommend I give a try?

BBQer's Delight.

In 7 years cooking with my FEC-100 no one has every commented that the food didn't have enough smoke. Is it the same sa a stick burner? No, unless you're cooking hot and fast like most Jambo cooks do. then the smoke flavor is very close to my FEC.
