I'd have one if it wasn't for the price that's for sure! My college budget just won't allow me to get one right now. One day though, one day.....

From everything I've read they make grilling and q'ing a lot more enjoyable. If I enjoy it anymore than I already do though I may explode. LOL.

To the OP. If you want to spend $25 or less (like me) then you need to look at this one from Thermoworks. Far better than anything else I've seen in this price range.

I have a thermoworks rt600c and love it, also its only 20$. The thermoworks website says 5-6 seconds verses 3 seconds on the thermopen but 19$ versus 96$

I definitely enjoy my thermapen. Steaks and burgers I normally temp by feel. What I love it for is poultry. It is nice and fast. I also use it for probe testing on items like brisket, boneless pork butts, etc.

My roommate uses it to temp his homebrew beer as well as making sure his kegarator still maintains temps. He also uses it to temp steaks/burgers whenever he cooks.

The durability is there. I have left mine outside overnight a few times after a few too many road sodas. I woke up the next morning with the morning dew on it and it worked flawlessly.

And of course the other colors don't perform anywhere close to the World's Fastest Blue Thermapen.

Good purchas! I use mine all the time. Great for poltry, beef, pork. When was the last time you overcooked chicken breast or a whole chicken? This will never happen again with your thermapen. Nothing worse then a dry chicken breast. Get the weber app on your phone if possable. It will give you the correct temps for all meat at the push of a button. My wife discovered my new toy and now she wants her own.

I love my Thermapen, but I did find an awesome alternative at restaurant depot that registers in the same amount of time for around $25. So there are definitely alternatives.

I have two thermapens and swear by them. I frequently cook for 35 to 40 - the speed of the thermapen allows me to do quick checks of 30+ chicken breasts, burgers, steaks, tri tips, etc. A slower unit would be worthless. For the record - green one and limited edition "desert tan with American Flag" for me.

I used mine to double check the brine temp when curing my Bacon, and Corned Beef. they are expensive, but I don't regret for one second the money spent on it. Like others have said, if anything happens, I would be replacing it with another.

Great decision...

In addition to the Thermapen, I also have purchased the ThermoWorks COMBO THERMOMETER-INFRARED WITH FOLD OUT PROBE. While not as fast as the Thermapen, 8-10 seconds, you can get surface temps with the IR optic read. The price is $59.00 each.

I have two - and they started reading 5-7 degrees differently. Sent them back to Thermoworks - disassembled, cleaned, tested and calibrated both at no charge. Then wrote me apologizing for the inconvenience.

I'm afraid there are Thermapens and everything else.
