I did it that way to have an opening at the bottom to make thorough cleaning easier i.e. when washing the inside don't have to tip the drum to get the water out. What was i thinking... who cleans a drum?

It destroys the ugly!

Thanks for that link. I can go either way with this drum, but two completely different mods required for each setup. I already have a 55-gal UDS so I'm kind of liking the tall boy mini-WSM idea now. I didn't realize how well the drum fit inside the Smokey Joe kettle. :)

I say do it! Just make sure the drum is steady on the SJ base, otherwise it may easily tip over because of the height

Thanks for the links Bob13. The WSM style leg mod shown is exactly what I had in mind. I already have some aluminum bar stock to work with.
