Hickory if only 1. I like a stronger smoke flavor.

Pecan for me. It's the most versatile and not too strong. It helps having a pecan tree that provides me an endless supply.

i voted pecan because i've got a pile of it that my son brought me. Also a fan of hickory & peach because it was readily available to me in the past.
Would love to have a big ole pile of cherry so i could have voted cherry. Basically i'm a cheap farker who likes free wood.

I think Hickory is best for beef. For poultry and pork I prefer Pecan

You mean your local grocery stores or hardware stores don't sell those small bundles for fireplaces? Sometimes you can get a deal and they are usually oak

I'm not sure why so many people voted hickory for all around use. Hickory is so easy to over power foods if you are not careful. To me all around use is something not so strong and not too weak.....just in between.

Pecan for me. Use a little or use a lot, pretty good either way.

I usually use a blend of apple and pecan with a little cherry for color, but if I have to pick only one it's apple because I have a lot of apple orchards where I live.

Very interesting poll numbers. I am surprised by the strength of pecan and the weakness of cherry

I'm a pecan man myself, I'm surrounded by 4 100+ year old trees. Pecan to me is underestimated and if you haven't tried it you should. It's a good general use wood that works for anything. I consider it a step above apple

Hickory since I can cut down all the truckloads of it I want to. Love trying new woods though that I find at the store.
