You mentioned that it's heavy. Do you think it may still be somewhat green and not seasoned yet? More weight usually means higher moisture within.

If it helps..ashes are opposite... their branching or leaves will be opposite of each other from the main trunk..hickories and oaks are alternate..the leaves or branches form alternatively from each other..in georgia i use the acronym MADCAP buck for the opposite tree species..m for maple...a for ashes..d dogwood..cap for the family caprifolicaceae and buck for the buckeyes..and the rest of the trees are alternate..except for buttonbush which has a whorled pattern.

The one on the right is either maple or poplar.......I'm leaning toward poplar.
Fresh cut poplar is usually a light color, light weight, splits easily and not good for fireplaces. it pops easily in a fire. Known as a soft wood. |
