You really can't go wrong with a WSM. Just get the bigger model if possible.

It was, but it was the tool I used to pick out my new smokers for the competition level. I figured it might be much in regards to the smokers themselves, which was geared towards competitors, but wanted you to look at the questions. There are many smokers out there. Little babysitting...cookshack is outstanding. I have 2 drum smokers which are outstanding cookers. I got a barrel from a friend for free, 3-22.5" weber grates, went with a guru, and I was happy as a clam. A UDS in your region would do really well for the money. Check out Big Poppa or the Pit Barrel Cookers for some ideas.

Thanks Dan,
Your list helped me convince the wife that my choice should be the WSM 22. She, being the auditor in the house, seemed very receptive to my announcement of a future purchased when I showed her your list, and pointed out that the two WSM's made that list..... SO.... it may be a couple of months (because of the $400 price), but one thing for sure, it's out in the open, she is receptive, It's going to happen. Thanks to everyone for the information. It will be a WSM 22.5.... I love the idea of long cooks on one bunch of coals, no chance of any electric problems. (I'm very snake bitten in that regard). And the amount of food the WSM 22 is capable of cooking at one time. (I love this part). Thanks again.......

I personally would not waste my time with a propane smoker. I've tried a couple different ones but didn't have much luck with producing quality. About 8 years ago I purchased a cheap offset, made the recommended modifications and never looked back. Using lump charcoal is a must.
