had a beauty lodge dutch oven that had a good amount rust. put it on oven self clean and the rust (and seasonin) fell off. then had to re-season.
in retrospect, would just wipe clean with water and then just start using. cast iron rust from neglect/disuse. |

I saw a thing on the food network where they scrubbed the cast iron pots with salt and canola oil then put the pans in the oven for a while. Not sure of the specifics but I am sure they still have that on there website.

Coke should work just fine. It's pretty acidic...if you read the ingredients, you'll find phosphoric acid in it.
according to the USP (which gives the standards for pharmaceuticals and ingredients), phosphoric acid "has a pleasantly acidic taste when diluted sufficiently." and I always remember the first thing hearing/teaching in a lab class was not to smell or taste your chemicals.

I had a wagner fry pan that was in rough shape, I did a high temp burn in my Akorn (700ish degrees) for about 30 minutes with the pan in there. EVERYTHING came off, reasoned, now it's in great shape.

PM motoeric. He tested a product that worked well and did a review of it in the Smoke Signals magazine. I want to say that it was a little over a year ago, but my memory could be off.
