2013 Weber Jumbo Joe

Below is a photo of the new jumbo joe compared with the European Compact Weber 47cm (18inch) kettle. It appears to be the same bowl and lid. If any of our international Brethren have this grill. They can probably confirm or deny that it will fit the middle section of an 18"wsm or 30 gallon drum. It all depends on the bowl and lid lips.

Side note: Target deleted the ad for the jumbo joe, Weber is on to us.

What I would really like to see is a kettle that has legs that collapse with a way to fasten the lid. I would love to have a portable kettle that stood the regular height and could be carried with one hand.

Here's a pic of an older smokey joe platinum with a pro q stacker ,yes, I painted it red but it wasn't high enough temp paint :( You have to invert the stacker and move the brackets but it works great! I'm planning to install some daisy vents for better temp control.

First off 30 gallon drums seem to be harder to come by than 85 gallon overpack drums. But if those are your plans start searching now.

I had a rustbucket 18" Red Bar-B-Kettle that I considered turning into a SJP using replacement parts from Weber, but I found a 30 gallon drum without a lid.

The Weber lid does not fit the drum, so I cut the bowl and did the swamprb UDS Weber lid flange mod and tack welded it to the drum.











I wouldn't be surprised if Cajun Bandit considers making a Stacker for the 18"Kettle/WSM in the future.

We have an OLD Jumbo Joe, that was also called the Outrider, and a newer Smoky Joe Platinum, which is basically the same thing, but with the new composite handles.

The main issue with these was the lower vent is higher than the level of the charcoal grate, making temp control a bit of a pain. Before I bought another, I'd check to see that the bottom vent is below the fuel grate. Just a word of advice!

Lower vent appears to be on the bottom in the OP picture.

I was going to make a mini WSM, but now I am going to wait to see how this develops.

Kind of ironic that Weber is cutting into their own WSM sales by making such nice moddable kettles.

I would Further the Last Comment By adding ....Weber is cutting into ALL of their sales by not offering us here In the USA the other models available in other areas of the world, they are different in design and have addtl saftey feastures such as the handle mounted heat shields etc..I understand they would be at a higher price point possibly but in the long run they would be winners.Me personally Would buy 1 of everything and 2 of some and continue to replace as they died .. I know I am only 1 person with this sickness ..but there is a Website (www.BBQ-Brethren)that is dedicated
to others with similar sicknesses and word travels fast and I know weber would have a surge in sales. JM2 cents

Not sure if you'll be able to convert the new ones to WSMs but the old one's work great with an upside down WSM Pro-Q stacker which can be found on eBay. I did it and I love how it turned out. Look here for pics and instructions:

whats odd to me is in europe they are selling grills only with the vents on the side and now this.
