One of the reasons I didn't put springs was I wanted to keep it low to the ground. I figure I can run the tires about 25psi to help absorb some of the bumps. Plus I don't plan on pulling it very far. Had I done more research I would have used a torsion axel instead but this one was welded on already. It's not optimum but oh we'll.
Keep the comments coming. Hopefully someone will catch a mistake before it happens!! LOL

I have to say that I think that you are making a HUGE mistake not putting springs on the axle and mounting them to the frame of the trailer. You're going to have a VERY bumpy ride with out them. And running your tires that low has it's own sets of issues also. You could likely blow one out and/or damage a rim. Not sure I'd want to be towing thousands of lbs behind me at any real speed if and when that happens.

I can always add a torsion axel afterwards if it becomes an issue. We shall see.

Ok finally getting back to construction on the smoker. The fire box ha turned out to be way more work than anticipated but I'm enjoying the quiet time.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1340984126.819261.jpg Before insulation! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1340984185.636875.jpg This insulation is flakey and hard to deal with but I finally got it in there! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1340984260.734945.jpg And now covered up.

I like what you got going so far besides the axle direct to the trailer. I am trying to get my materials together to start building my trailer pit as well. I have never seen the firebox like that. Where did you get details for that like what to use, kind of insulation, spacing, etc? I could really use that so I don't have to worry so much about a hot spot being near the firebox. Does it help hold heat better or does it keep you from buring some fool that wants to lean on it, lol.

The box design came from a fellow brethren (thatswhatshesaidbbq) and he got the design from a jambo pit design. So I did more looking and finally seen some goods pics if the jambo and off I went. I insulated for better heat control and also for safety during tailgate parties.
The insulation is fiber wool board. It came from a place in Springfield MO. Pretty cheap I thought so that's what I went with it has a 2000° melting point. It's 2" thick. Yeah I have gotton crucified over the whole solid axel thing but I'll take care of that at a later date. Thanks for looking and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Today I worked on the grate and the doors. I was hoping since I cut the doors with a plasma cutter that they would fit right back in place. NOPE!! 3 hrs later thet finally fit.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341188117.378801.jpg The grill grate on the right is removable incase cleaning is needed. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341188197.811674.jpg
