This is what I use from my local Publix store. No idea who makes or packages it for them. I like it OK. Better than most others available to me. About $5 for 8.8# bag.

another vote for Maple Leaf. It is the best. When I go to Canada, I bring back several bags - available at Rona, a sort of Canadian Home Depot.
I just discovered GFS (Gordon Food Service) lump. I've read it's food service quality Royal Oak. Lots of big chunks. Lots. Cowboy is junk. I wouldn't use it to line a cat box.

+1 for Good One. Best of any that I have tried. I've never found rocks, wire or other debris in the bag like many of the other brands.

Personally, I really enjoy Cowboy. They try to put a special surprise in every bag. Usually it is just a dud like concrete, but every once in a while you get a petrified mouse or snake. I hardly ever get cool stuff like that with those other brands.

Royal Oak varies in quality depending where you live. The Royal Oak in my town is made up of recycled plywood, has un-carbonized pieces, is not let in the Kiln long enough, smells a little funny and sparks when you hit it with the Looftlighter.
![]() There are more small pieces than I would like some times; boy does she smell great.

You go in a door, tell the guys at the counter what you want, and they bring it out to your car or truck on a forklift. I usually tip the driver. It's an interesting place. |
