Default Looking for a Mig welder?

Here is a good price on a descent welder. Comes with a free cart and free shipping. Century is to Lincoln what Hobart is to Miller.

I have owned an older model for over 10 yrs. It works really well. I mostly use just fluxed cored wire for it.

Only downside I see is the wire feed has some plastic parts. But it being a name brand parts are available if needed.

I don't think that's a MIG welder, but actually a Flux Core wire feed welder with, at best, a very low MIG/TIG welding capability of 1/8" or less???

Century/Lincoln K2787-2 140 Amp 110 Volt MIG Welder

Century/Lincoln 140 Amp Flux core wire feed welder with welding cart and gas kit. Welds both gasless flux core and MIG. includes: Welding Cart 1 lb spool of .035 NR-211-MP flux-cored wire Gun and cable assembly 10 ft. work cable and clamp 10 ft hose gas regulator Spare contact tips Flux-cored nozzle Instruction manual 10 ft input cable and attached plug Three year warranty parts and labor 90 days on gun and cable assembly.

You need to buy a gas bottle (@ $80) and a nozzle (@ $8-$10) to use it as a Mig. It is not a superior welder but a good one at a Harbor Freight price. Would do great for average Joe doing home projects.

Agreed. But your preaching to some folks that won't spend $2 more to ensure the hardware they use is not galvanized.

Ahh...thanks for the specs on it, that explains my confusion. Not sure I would recommend it's usage as a MIG based on it's duty cyle rating, but it could be just fine for light gauge home use.

The Miller above on the other hand is a very different story. That's the one I use almost daily and love that machine!!! But then again, I'm very partial to Miller equipment.

Here is the duty cycle of a agreed superior Miller that is a comparable 115V welder... at almost twice the price. Superior because of Aluminum drive, infinate settings vs. click position, auto set feature.
Specs:
Process
MIG (GMAW)Input AC Voltage
115V
Phase
Single PhaseOutput DC Amps [max]
90
Duty Cycle
20%Polarity
DC
Weight
60 lb

http://www.millerwelds.com/pdf/MM140AutoSetSS.pdf

And a Lincoln
Key Specs

Volts
120Amps
140Duty Cycle
20% at 90 Amps, 19.5 VoltsMig Ready
YesWire Feed Speed Control
50-500 IPMWeldable Metals
Steel, aluminumWeld Thickness (in.)
Up to 5/16in. mild steel

Seems all are about 20%/90 Amps/19+/_ V.

Just saying for a guy who wants to be a hobbyist it is a good deal, sure there are better but post one delivered with cart and gas kit for less than $350.

Well, I've always been man enought to admit that one may have proven me wrong...and this appears to be the case on spec issues.

But I'm willing to bet that the componets used to build the Century are probably much less quality than even an equivalent Lincoln. Why else have an off brand?

Not splitting hairs over this, but having been a metal fabricator for 12 + years, I've learned that the few extra dollars spent up front can save you a lot more down the road.

But yes, it would be a fine welder for a hobbiest just looking to do small projects!!!
