A friend of mine and I stumbled across a vertical offset a few years ago. For giggles, we entered a small competition after having cooked on it for about 2 months. The results were pretty brutal. As far as I know, none of the judges got sick from what we handed in.

We took a year off and then started back up. Practice, practice, practice! We made our triumphant return to the previously mentioned competition and snagged a 1st and two 3rd place ribbons! From there, Big Iron BBQ was born!

The name Big Iron was inspired by our smoker as well as an old Marty Robbins cowboy song.

In lieu of our recent good fortune, we are going to enter a few more events this year and see how we hold up. During planning, we discussed the possible need for an additional smoker. Since this is still "just for fun", I wasn't looking to drop a ton on a new or used smoker. So, I'm here with the goal of building a UDS and stealing some good chicken recipes. I'll post pics if I manage to pull this off! thanks!
