Does anybody have any info on this comp?? I heard it is possibly in may. Hope this one turns out better than montana comp:sick: .

Ron Cates said last week that he is still working out the details with the resort.

We are looking forward to getting all the details also. Depending on where it falls in our schedule, we may be heading out that way from Florida.

We have no shame in chasing the money. :)

Is this a revival of the Mandalay Bay event or are we talking about the event held in Boulder City over Memorial Day??

This is a Ron Cates, "Smoke on the Water" production. It will happen if Ron has any thing to do with it.

Bump.

Ron Cates has been quiet on this for a week now. Anyone have new inside info?

See you in Delaware. State # 31. I can't keep waiting on this event and being held hostage. I have a free entry for Delaware and I 'm heading to Amish country...

It's not just this contest, also got the SAMS club, kingsford cup, and in Indiana the Hoosier cup, plus all the SOTW events. Any body got ideas when these might come out.

Presuming this event ever happens, I had some ideas for those of you discussing the cost: One is to get a "group buy" in on a transportation company with car haulers and the like. They could probably fit six large pits on the back and get you all to and from the competition. With the group buy, it might be cheaper than driving. You could also look at PODS if your pit is small enough. None of these are cheap, but compared to a $1200 fuel bill....

Got an email from SOTWP

It's official. The Orleans Casino will be hosting the $125,000 USA Barbecue Championship in Las Vegas May 21 - 22. The world's richest purse will pay $25,000 for Grand, top 20 overall and through 50 places in each category.
Our website www.smokeonthewaterbbq.com will be updated by end of next week with registration details. It will be a KCBS sanctioned event with certified judges.
Entry fee is $500 and includes 20 amp of electricity and water. Also, the casino is offering $50 in slot play, 3 buffets, show tickets, complimentary drinks, one pull on the million dollar slot machine ($150 value) and will cash winner's checks.
Teams will be checked in Friday with the contest on Saturday and judging on Sunday. There will be special low room rates for both judges and teams.
Smoke on the Water signed a long term deal with the casino with the goal of $500,000 purse within five years. The annual event will always be held third weekend in May along with a ribfest for the public to eat champion barbecue. Let the flames begin!!!

I wonder if they realize that in future years this will put their big festival the same weekend as MIM. May has five Sundays this year, and MIM considers the "third weekend" to be the week before this event, but next year, that won't be so. It's certainly not every one, but there are at least a few big name teams who may continue to do MIM in stead, then again, maybe not.
