So I have a list that I like, but how do I go about making sure nobody else has this name? Is there a way to search for this?

You can also google the name. If someone is using it in contests, it will normally show up.

Thanks, looks like my #1 selection is available. Do any of you trademark your name?

I have been thinking about it, along with my logo. I do some catering so my comp name is also my LLC name

What's wrong with One Nine 3 BBQ?

As much as I like it (and will keep it for myself). Most of my friends (and everybody else) doesn't get it. Even when I spell it out they don't really hold on to it.

For those wonder it's ... if you put the One and Nine together you have 19. The 19th letter is S. And then 3 is C, so it's SC BBQ. I like it but others seem to think it's a bit much.

Like I said if/when I do cooks myself. I'll keep One Nine 3 BBQ as the name, but for a team I'll switch it up.

Why is the one and nine spelled out and not the 3?:becky: Is it to separate that it is 19?

For you guys who trademarked your name / logo, did you do it online or go through an atty.?

Thanks :thumb:

My name is not trademarked the traditional way, but it is in a manner.

I did the obligatory searches through all the major sanctioning bodies (KCBS, MBN, FBA, GBA, etc) as well as google.

Once I found it was available, I immediately snatched up all the online personas of same. Facebook, twitter, website domain, Here, there and everywhere & Registered it with KCBS

A trademark is only as good as your willingness to defend it in court.

This was never intended as a money generating franchise, (I sure do spend a lot though. :tsk: ) but a hobby, so if someone wants to assume and trademark Sir Porkalot BBQ team, they are more than welcome to.

Of course since I basically own the online presence, they will pay well if they want it.

I mean if you google Sir Porkalot, I am the top 10+++ results.

So legal trademark. No.

honestly i went through 50 different team names and after 50 different names i got my team now. but ill give you one of my favorites but to riskay! haha it was (Half Ass BBq). but when deciding about a team name think of 2 things/ 1 what type of character you are and 2 what fits the area you are competiting! hope this helps
