Butts are on

Hadn't planned on cooking this weekend but after reading all the posts of what folks have cooking I had to go digging in the freezer and found a 2 pack of pork butts.
Took them out of the fridge this morning and found they are still a little frozen where they were together. Oh well - longer cook.
Rubbed them down and threw them on the BGE. Also decided to do some ABT's - the only jalapenos we could get are monsters so we decided to do them a boats. The small ones on the left are from our garden.
After we got done putting the ABT's together Big Al made some biscuts with fatties... ummm

Will round out this meal with some tomato pie. More to follow....

Had to go back and look again. Noticed your bolt on clamp ring isn't very bent. I was told and have read several times by Ricks Tropical they need to be tightened until they bend.

But of course!
6.5 hours into the cook and the butts are in a 2 hour plateau in the mid 170's.....
Just cooked the crust for the tomato pie
Patience is a virtue.....
 
bend dem bolts! if they ain't bent, they ain't tight enuf!

you definitely don't want a hot dome falling out of the band :shock:
 
Not all that bad for a girl! LOL

It looks really good. Those are some awesome fatty biscuits.
 
Norco and Rick - thanks for the info - had the egg assembled where we bought it (really wasn't up for the cussing that would have accompioned it).
Can this be done while the egg is hot (like now) or is it something I best wait on?
 
wait till it cools. then slowly torque the nuts by hand (no 2' pipe) till the bolts bend slightly.

Thanks guys - have to say this is the best butt we have done in a long time. Cooking to temp and giving it a rest in the cooler has done amazing things for my Q.
