I am interested in buying a Backwoods Smoker Competitor. Does anyone know if the convection option is well worth the money or would you suggest I go without it? It seems like a very expensive option.

I've got the convection on mine, but I only use it when catering, and it's worth having if you plan on loading up the cooker on a regular basis. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend the money.

if you use a blower (guru) it gives you an el-cheapo convection effect. What is nice about backwoods is the reverse airflow so it really isn't necessary. They have a ton of airflow on their own.

+1

I have it and only use it when I load it up with 16 butts. Even with the 10CFM fan I have on my Stoker there is not enough flow without the convection.
