5 foot charcaol grill?

For DYI, what kind/gauge metal is optimal to build a 2' x 4' x 12" box? I was thinking maybe 12 -14 gauge sheet metal, but not sure about low carbon or alloyed steel.

If you want something commercial grade that will take the abuse and last, check out

They became a sponsor of mine after I had bought their largest propane grill for the parties I throw. Everything they make is commercial grade. They aren't the cheapest out there, but the quality is worth the price if you want serious cooking equipment.

If you are interested I can hook you up with a decent discount, like 35%, from the US sales manager who I work with as my contact at the company, just pm me with your contact info.

A friend that has a catering company has an old Crown Verity. Very well built, but not a one person deal. Adding charcoal is not easy and the grate needs two people to adjust height or get set up. It has been around for over 30 years now and going strong though.

Not sure if big enough for your needs but Big John's carries a basic, sturdy 5 footer for about $500-600 (I think), bought mine used. Think they're a touch cheaper than Meadow Creek (not talking about their chicken cooker). It has a single piece solid steel trough with a large adjustable steel grate. Legs unscrew for packing, and heavy duty wheels optional.

Thanks for the info, big john makes some nice stuff! I am waiting for my crown verity now. I couldn't beat the price they gave for the quality of product(with the help of tailgatejoe).

Thanks to everyone actually for the input....

FWIW for comparison shopping, the BM-60 is $659 at Sams Club right now with free delivery.
