I have found some Figaro Liquid smoke (hickory) on a New Zealand online auction site since we cant get it in stores here.
The 4oz bottle is selling for $26; should I buy it? would it be worth having around? I could use it in sauces could I not?

thanks for your insight.
Scott

There are some sauces that benefit from liquid smoke, regardless of what the naysayers may say.
Good to have around is my vote.

If only I could find a store in the states that ships to New Zealand, $3usd to a pretty nice price.

I always use liquid smoke in my dehydrated beef jerky marinade.

I like a little in my Bloody Mary's other than that don't see a need in it

I gotta say, not for $26 for 4 ounces. It does have applications and a little goes a long ways, but, that is a lot of money for 4 ounces of just about anyhting. I would consider making it first.

I will use smnoked salt or smoked paprika to add smokiness at times.

I found 8.5oz bottle for 18 including shipping.
I can get the same brand (a new zealand brand) 1L (33oz) for $31.

Not sure how good their liquid smoke is though.

Still seems like a lot of money. I know it is good in a few things, but I just don't seem to use it anymore. I would not pay that amount of money just to have it around. Definitely would make it first -- it isn't hard.

Liquid smoke has it's place. Just not near any real deal BBQ. That price is nuts though. I'd definitely pass.

Liquid Smoke is like any other spice, seasoning, or ingredient; if you like it, use it.
If you don't like it, don't use it. But, for that price, I think I'd try to make my own.

I only used it once, about 35 years ago (I must have lost my head), but I think that you would only use 1 or two drops at a time, so 33 oz should last several lifetimes.
